A Clinical Trial of Trimebutine in Various Gastrointestinal Diseases




Abstract
Twenty-six adult Koreans suffering from various gastrointestinal diseases with main symptoms of nausea, vomiting, epigastric fullness, epigastric pain, constipation, diarrhea and dysphagia were given trimebutine 300mg daily in 3 divided doses orally for 2 weeks, and the results were compared to 14 patients who had been given placebo.
The results were as followings:
1. 82% of patients showed marked improvement on this regimen as compared to 8% on placebo treatment.
2. The effect of trimebutine on the symptoms due to disturbance of gastrointestinal motility such as epigastric fullness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea et al, seems to be rather excellent.
3. No definite side-effect of trimebutine was found at dosage of 300mg/day.
4. Trimebutine is recommended as a new efficient antispasmodic agent is the treatment of various gastrointestinal diseases.
